There are several federal and state regulations for safety in the construction industry. It is important for us to follow these regulations but more important is our responsibility to ensure that our employees receive the highest standard of education in safety training. Our number one priority is the safety of our employees, customers, and fellow contractors.
With the help of our safety consultant Larry Reichert of Enhanced Performance Solutions www.eps-safety.com, we have created several safety programs and policies. We train our company programs regularly with monthly, mandatory, company wide safety meetings.
We have programs that cover Behavior Based Safety, Hazard Communication & Chemical Safety, Vehicle Safety and Defensive Driving, and Stop Work Authority, just to name a few. These programs are available to our employees to review at any time.
Outside of the training that we provide, we also take the responsibility of all specialty trainings that are important to each individual job such as SafeLand, OSHA 10 Hour, and First Aid & CPR certifications. In addition to the monthly safety meeting, we conduct weekly tailgate meetings, and daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) meetings. Our crews have been rewarded for their compliance to the JHA’s on numerous customer locations.
We know that to maintain our safety goals, we need each and every one of our employees to participate and be dedicated to their own safety and the safety of those around them. To reward them for their dedication we have an annual awards ceremony honoring each employee with a gift based upon their hours of service injury free.
Driver and equipment safety is another important aspect for our industry. We strive to maintain great standings with both FMCSA and DOT rules and regulations and we train our drivers as to the importance of following these rules as well.
To ensure everyone’s safety we implement a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy in which every employee is tested prior to being hired and randomly through our consortium DISA Inc.
Finally, it is important to us to stay on top of our industry safety regulations. We are members with the Mountain States Energy Alliance, American Subcontractor Association of Colorado, JJ Keller and many more. We are always on the look out for continued education opportunities to keep our management and administrative class as informed as possible.
